'Divergent: Allegiant' part 1 release date, plot update: Movie will be sticking to novel's ending

It's not uncommon for movie adaptation of novels to somehow tweak or change stories to reach a wider audience appeal or to simply be able to fit such complex stories in a mere one and a half hours. However, it doesn't seem like "Divergent" will be willing to change its ending to please fans.

For the fans who have only followed the story through the movie, they are simply looking forward to seeing more of how Tris and Four's love story will end. However, readers of the novel know that the end is less than happy for the two as Tris will ultimately die.

According to China Topix, this has devastated fans and has prompted a petition on Change.org to have an alternate ending take place. The effort had all been in vain as Veronica Roth, author of the novel trilogy, was not convinced that an alternate ending was needed. She insisted that her decision to have the story the way it is today is because of her belief that it should be like that.

Shalaine Woodley, who plays Tris, spoke about her character's fate with Digital Spy, "I think that it's a beautiful decision that Veronica made. I mean, how often is it that somebody you really admire and who does take selfless risks every day ends up living."

Aside from Woodley, Theo James, who plays Four, also agrees with the original ending by admitting that it seemed "totally natural" at this point. He is quoted saying, "Tris' character is, it's all about self-sacrifice — It would be strange if you just saw Four and her in the end like smoking cigars and hanging out with their kids and their dog."

The filming of "Allegiant – Part 1" has just wrapped recently, but the movie is not expected to hit theatres until March 18, 2016.
