'Divinity: Original Sin 2' News: Kickstarter Campaign Breaches $1.2M, Undead Now a Playable Race
Upcoming role-playing video game "Divinity: Original Sin 2" recently breached the $1.2 million mark on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, with still several weeks to go before its campaign ends. According to a report in Game Spot, this meant that the game has also reached another stretch goal which will offer players the chance to play the Undead when the game is eventually released in December 2016.
The game is a sequel to the first role-playing game by Larian Studios called "Divinity: Original Sin" which was released for PC in 2014. It was announced on August 12, followed by the start of a Kickstarter campaign on August 26, with a funding goal of $500,000.
When this goal was reached within 12 hours from the start of the campaign, Larian Studios started adding stretch goals for the game. At $700,000, a Strategist Mode will be added, which allows players to play with a higher difficulty level, with better and more skilled opponents. The next stretch goal is getting a Skill Tree at $850,000. After this, at $1 million, players can choose to have skills, abilities and talents that are based on the race they are playing.
With the funding currently at $1.241 million and more than 27,000 backers, the fourth stretch goal has been reached, which makes the Undead an additional race that is playable. There are two more stretch goals for the game: another Skill Tree at $1.35 million and the addition of another location, the Hall of Echoes if it reaches $1.5 million.
Larian Studios, through the Kickstarter campaign, is also asking its backers and supporters for concrete inputs on how the game should turn out. Specifically, it has been asking for feedback about what skills the Undead race should have.
The game features single player and multiplayer modes. Players can choose the race and origin story of their characters. The multiplayer mode can accommodate up to four players. The game also has an improved skill crafting system compared to the original game.
