DMX Believes God Helped Him Get Off Drugs

DMX has his faith to thank for overcoming problems with the law and cocaine – and he is set to make a comeback.

Earl "DMX" Simmons told TMZ after being released from jail in July that coke [cocaine] was his greatest demon.

"Everyone was taking advantage of me with my finances, trying to put me in the direction to fail. I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go," he told the gossip news site.

The rapper has formed a relationship with God over the years, and says, "I am on a spiritual road to do right in my life. I am leaving out all negativity and going to stay on the right road to positive."

TMZ was able to speak to DMX's pastor and he had this to say about the troubled rapper, "When [DMX] first came to my church he looked broken, sad, and full of struggle. Now you see a dramatic change. You see that the drugs and alcohol aren’t in his life."

DMX has sparked a bit of controversy stating several times that his true life calling is to become a pastor despite being in and out of jail for the better part of 10 years.

"[This time in jail] has gotten me closer ... to realizing, to actualizing my true calling in life, which is to be a pastor," he told Fox 10 News in 2009, while serving time in Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix.

He hopes to eventually launch a television program about how he can reach people for Jesus due to his fame.

For those who say DMX can't be Christian because of his lyrics he says, "It's just slick talk; it's not something to be taken literally. Evidently, if I was doing that, I wouldn't be rapping. It's word play, poetry.”

DMX is sure to put one gospel song on every album he has produced. "What it boils down to, and it always boils down to, is a gospel song and a prayer,” DMX said to FOX. “Every album I ended with a gospel song and a prayer.”
