Dobson to Discuss Stem-Cell Research Issue on CBS' 'Face the Nation'

Dr. James Dobson, founder and Chairman of the Board of Focus on the Family, is scheduled to appear Sunday, June 13, on CBS's "Face the Nation," to discuss "The Debate Over Stem-Cell Research".

Karen Tumulty of TIME magazine and Sen. Arlen Specter (Penn.-R), who advocates for more stem cell research will also appear on the show, which is hosted by CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer.

The issue of stem-cell research has gained greater attention in the past week due to the efforts of Nancy Reagan who has been using former President Reagan's Alzheimer's disease to give backing to her crusade. Mrs. Reagan had also lent support to a legislation proposed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, who co-sponsored a letter on Monday that delivered to the White House, signed by 57 other senators, asking Bush to consider changing the administration's current restrictions on stem cell research.

Many pro-family groups including Concerned Women for America and Family Research Council are against embryonic stem-cell research, which would result in the destruction of the embryo, but are in favor adult stem cells for medical research.

"Face the Nation" airs at 10:30 a.m. Eastern on CBS.
