Doctor Shocked After Prayer Heals Cancerous Tumor; Woman Calls It a 'Gift From God'
An Israeli woman and her doctor expressed shock and amazement when the woman's massive malignant tumor, initially found in her leg, vanished almost completely after five months of no treatment, only intensive prayer.
Therese Daoud, a high school science teacher living in the city of Isfiya, was told by doctors at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv that she had to have part of her right leg amputated after an MRI detected a large tumorous mass, about the size of an orange, growing near her ankle. The mass was malignant sarcoma and cancer was quickly spreading throughout her leg. Doctors told her she would probably die if her leg wasn't partially amputated to remove the tumor.
Daoud reportedly scheduled an appointment for the operation, but the surgery was postponed twice for reasons unrelated to her treatment. When the third tentative surgery date was scheduled, Daoud's mother fell ill and she decided to cancel the surgery, saying that if the surgery had to be rescheduled three times, perhaps it was a sign that she shouldn't go through with the procedure.
Instead of receiving treatment, Daoud, a Christian, returned to her home and began intensely praying for her own recovery. When she returned for an X-Ray at Ichilov Hospital five months later, her doctor, Jacob Bickels, was amazed to find the tumor had completely disappeared and there was no trace of cancer in her body. The doctor told Channel 2 News that when he asked Daoud what had happened while she had been away from the hospital, the faithful teacher smiled wide and said "I prayed."
"This phenomenon is unfeasible and undocumented," Dr. Bickels told Israel's Channel 2 News in a recent interview regarding the phenomenon. "I'm a practical man. I'm a cancer surgeon. I don't search for solutions from the heavens, but the only thing we did for Therese was to wait. She in fact wasn't treated."
"The effect of things that occur in the soul of man over things that occur in his body is an area in which we understand practically nothing," Dr. Bickels said. "In my opinion, that is Therese's story."
Daoud added to the local media outlet that she felt an immense sense of peace every time she prayed. "I didn't feel sick; I projected to everyone that I wasn't sick," she said. "Every time I prayed I felt peaceful and secure. I had fear, but I had tranquility as well."
"It's a gift from God," the woman added.
Other Christians have also advocated the healing power of prayer after they experienced recovery from a major sickness. One cancer survivor, Hal Hart, attributed his recovery from Stage 4 bone cancer and metastatic lung cancer in September to God. "Some of the doctors believe in God's power, and some of them believe in medicine," Hart said. "But I believed that God would heal me, and He did."
