'Doctor Strange' has Benedict Cumberbatch locking horns with Chiwetel Ejiofor
Now that Chiwetel Ejiofor has revealed that he is joining the cast of "Doctor Strange", we can expect a mega battle between Stephen Strange and Baron Mardo.
Marvel seems to have acquired not less than three distinguished actors for the key roles. Academy Award-nominee Benedict Cumberbatch will play Doctor Stephen Strange. Pitted aganist him will be Academy Award-nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role of Baron Mordo. And completing the lead trio is Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton, who will play The Ancient One.
Chiwetel Ejiofor talked to EW about his joining the cast of "Doctor Strange" He said, "I am doing Doctor Strange, and I'm incredibly excited about it, that's all I can say".
About his co-stars, Ejiofor said of Benedict that "he's a good friend of mine. So it's gonna be fun." When asked about Tilda Swinton, he replied, "I haven't worked with her, but I'm excited to work with her. She's brilliant".
Marvel has been tight-lipped about "Doctor Strange" and has not released any details about this film. With "Doctor Strange", Marvel is seeking to expand the worlds of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. MCU's "Guardians of the Galaxy" was set in space and explored extraterrestrial worlds. "Ant-Man" went into the world of quantum physics. And now, with "Doctor Strange", MCU is moving into magic and fantasy. For each movie, they have created different worlds and with "Doctor Strange", they will be creating a new magical world which is "dark and psychedelic."
Ben Davis, the British cinematographer who has worked in films like "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," revealed that the world of "Doctor Strange" is dark and he has been inspired by the works of M.C. Escher's unique graphics, but uses the term "Marvel's Fantasia" to describe it.
He said, "DPs [directors of photography] always love the word 'dark'. The trouble is that most producers don't like dark... I described it as Marvel's Fantasia because it's so out there and different to everything else that they've done."
