Before the synopsis surfaced online, BBC had already dropped a teaser for the Christmas Special, showing the First and Twelfth Doctors debating on which of them is the legitimate Doctor. However, a common enemy suddenly shows up, and they are compelled to get along and work together.

Earlier this year, Capaldi confirmed that he would step down as the Doctor after season 10. It was later learned that he would be replaced by actress Jodie Whittaker, who will serve as the first female Doctor in the history of the series.

The "Doctor Who" Christmas Special will be shown on Dec. 25 on BBC and BBC America.
