'Doctor Who' Season 8 New Doctor Was Almost a Minority
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi has been named the new Doctor during a live show on BBC, Sunday, Aug. 4. This announcement comes as a shock because many fans were expecting and hoping for a female or minority actor to be named the new Doctor. Recently, Doctor Who writer Neil Gaiman revealed new information as to why neither a minority nor female were chosen for the role.
An unnamed minority actor was offered the role, however he turned it down, according to what Neil Gaiman wrote on his blog, neil-gaiman.tumblr.com,
"Would I like a person of colour as the Doctor? Absolutely. I know one black actor who was already offered the part of the doctor, and who turned it down," Gaiman wrote.

He also responded to the notion of having a female actress play the Doctor.
"Do I think it's time to cast a woman as the Doctor? Not yet. Not quite. I'm pretty sure that I said that if I were telling the story I'd make the 13th Doctor a woman. And lord, if and when they ever do that, I want them to keep it the biggest secret in the world until we see it happen on our screens during the regeneration," the writer said on his blog.
Though Peter Capaldi doesn't break the mold of white male doctors, many are very excited to see him in the Doctor role, including executive producer Stephen Moffat.
"One of the most talented actors of his generation is about to play the best part on television," Moffat said, according to BBC News.
