'Doctor Who' season 9 plot rumors: Clara to be replaced by Maisie William's character
Without even the ninth season of "Doctor Who" beginning yet, fans are also speculating details for season 10.
There were rumors stating that Jenna Coleman will be making her exit before the tenth season. She was expected to leave the series at the end of season eight. However, she will still be present for the upcoming season.
According to KPopStarz, there were photos released from the set of the finale of season nine. It showed Clara at Eddie's Diner. From this, it can be assumed that she is no longer taking part adventures with the Doctor, since she will return to working at the diner.
Coleman shared her sentiments about her decision to leave the show. She said,"I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved, there's so much more to do and I think [Clara and the Doctor] have finally just reached a point where they really understand each other." Furthermore, it was expected that Maisie Williams will be replacing Coleman. The ninth season will work over the transition between the two. It was said that the Doctor will be having difficulties adjusting to Clara's absence. They were described as, "a bit addicted to each other, and to the dynamic they share. In a way, it's actually quite dangerous now, because she realises there is no going back for her."
Williams is only planned for two episodes of the season. However, since the season has not yet started, there could still be a possibility for a longer presence. Steven Moffat said that her character was made to challenge the Doctor in a way unlike any other. There are several theories on what character she will play, such as Susan, Doctor's daughter, or the Nightmare child.
Doctor Who season 9 will return on BBC America on Sept. 19.
