'Doctor Who' Season 10 Filming To Start In May
Actor Peter Capaldi looking forward to the shoot
BBC announced that the filming for the next season of "Doctor Who" had already been set and the cameras will start grinding by May. However, according to Radio Times, the show hasn't made a decision yet as to who will take over the role of Peter Capaldi's travel companion, a role that Jenna Coleman left.
While it is true that the show can surely pick the right person to fill Coleman's shoes, a source of Radio Times revealed that it remains uncertain whether Capaldi will be alone in his travels in time and space or will have a companion again.
Radio Times, likewise, revealed that in its prior interview with Capaldi, the actor was mum when asked to comment on the casting of the show.
"We've just had some brief talks about it, we haven't actually chosen someone yet — that I know of… I would expect that I would meet them before we finalized all that... we're looking for someone different," he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate article of the Radio Times, actress Maisie Williams, who assumed the role of Ashildr in the show's season nine, said Idris Elba should be the next Dr. Who once Capaldi decides to relinquish the role. On the other hand, the 18-year old Williams also told The Evening Standard that she is willing to become the new Doctor Who if given the chance.
"Yes it would be cool but right now I'm locked into some other things… I think a female Doctor would be incredible," she said.
In September last year, Capaldi revealed that he had developed knee problems that were the same with those of his predecessor on the show, Math Smith. He suspected that the physical challenges of playing a doctor had taken a toll on his health.
However, at the Covers Party held last month, Capaldi said that he was getting himself ready for the filming of the show, emphasizing that he needs to be in his tip-top shape once the cameras start grinding in May.
"You have to be fit to do Doctor Who… when we start, it'll run for nine months and the most important thing is to be there and to be fit and be on top of everything… I'm looking forward to starting."
