Donna's Fate Is Revealed in Premiere of 'Kevin Can Wait'
Fans of the series finally learned what happened to Erinn Hayes' character, Donna, in the new season of "Kevin Can Wait."
The latest installment of the CBS sitcom revealed that Kevin's (Kevin James) wife died, and it has been a year already since she passed away.
Previously, it was announced that Hayes would not be reprising her role. The showrunners stated that Donna was killed off due to creative and personal reasons. Fox News reported that soon after, Leah Remini, who plays Kevin's old partner Vanessa Cellucci, was promoted to series regular.
However, some of the show's fans have expressed their disappointment over the move. According to them, it was unfair for Hayes to be treated like that just to bring back Remini.
"The goal was to give Kevin's character a real drive and a real predicament [involving] how a family comes back together [after tragedy]," executive producer Rob Long explained to TVLine in August. "Also, out of respect for the character of Donna -- and certainly the way that Erinn Hayes portrayed her -- it seemed like the only right and fair way to treat her character."
Meanwhile, Remini recently took to Instagram to express her excitement on her reunion with her "Kings of Queens" co-star, James. She posted a photo of them together, thanking the cast and crew for welcoming her. Remini made her entrance in the series when she comforted Kendra (Taylor Spreitler) before her wedding. She threw a surprise bachelorette party for Kevin's child, and Kendra said she was thankful for her support.
Season 2 is expected to dwell on how Kevin is adjusting to single fatherhood. Last episode, he was shown struggling as he prepared food for his youngest kid while Kendra did her best to help.
"Kevin Can Wait" season 2 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
