Donovan McNabb Deal on the Table for Vikings

Donovan McNabb may don a Vikings football jersey after working out a deal with the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday.

In what ESPN analysts have referred to as, “The biggest NFC North development on the first day of the 2011 free-agent market,” the Washington Redskins are looking to trade McNabb for sixth-round draft picks in 2012 and 2013.

However, the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback must agree to the terms of a new contract deal that may cut his pay in a move from the Redskins to the Vikings.

According to NFL networks, the quarterback is being offered marginally less than the $12.5 million he would have made with the Redskins. The new contract reportedly offers McNabb a $10 million roster bonus on September 12, according to The Washington Post.

However, NFL sources reported that the deal is feasible for McNabb, who has developed a mutual interest in the Vikings throughout the years.

The veteran quarterback reportedly spoke with his agent, Fletcher Smith, about the trade before the NFL lockout began in March, according to the NFL network. Minnesota has also expressed interest, looking for a veteran to guide their rookie quarterback.

Christian Ponder, Vikings’ 12th overall draft pick rookie from Florida State University, took to his twitter to express excitement about possibly of playing with McNabb.

“Excited to have McNabb join. Will learn a lot from a Pro Bowler,” Ponder tweeted on Wednesday. “But that doesn’t mean I’m not still fighting to start week 1!”

After playing with the Philadelphia Eagles for 11 seasons, McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins in the 2010-2011 season. However, The Washington Post reported that Minnesota had been eyeing McNabb before his trade, where he scored 14 touchdowns and completed 58.3 percent of his passes last season.

McNabb is known for leading the Philadelphia Eagles’ to four consecutive NFC East division championships.
