Downgrading From iOS 9.0 To iOS 8.4.1 Is No Longer Possible for Users

Starting September 30, Apple iOS users can no longer downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1 after they have upgraded to iOS 9.0 or higher. According to a report in BGR, this is so because Apple has "stopped signing" the older iOS versions, namely 8.4.1 and 9.0, after it released a minor update, iOS 9.0.2 recently. This means that support for these older versions is no longer available.

Since Apple has stopped signing for iOS 9.0 as well, this also meant that this version of the software is no longer available through iTunes. Users can only opt to upgrade directly to iOS 9.0.2. The last version of iOS 8 (8.4.1) was released in August and it managed to break the iOS 8.4 jailbreak that was available back then.

Normally, after Apple releases an update, users can still opt to downgrade to the old version as it remains available for a while. In this case, however, only a few weeks have passed since iOS 9.0 was released but Apple already stopped signing both 8.4.1 and 9.0. Users who usually experience issues with the update may want to go back to using the old version. The latest update, iOS 9.0.2, provided minor fixes to 9.0.1 which included a screen unlock vulnerability.

The current mobile OS carries with it new features, some of which have been long awaited by Apple users. Chief of this is the ability to multitask with Split View and Slide View, which allows the user to view or open two apps side by side. Another feature is called picture in picture viewing, which allows the user to watch a video on a smaller screen on top of the app, such as YouTube.

Siri, Apple's digital assistant, is reportedly smarter in iOS 9.0 as it not only provides answers to most questions, but is also able to make suggestions. This is based on how the user makes use of his iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Apple's built-in apps such as News, Notes and Maps also come with improvements.
