'Downton Abbey' Season 5 News: Episode 5 Recap, Episode 6 Plot Revealed
"Downton Abbey" is about to end its fifth season, and episode 5 sees some of the characters kept busy by their love interests, while others had to make painful choices.
Tom is trying to decide what's best for him and his daughter. His marriage to the late Sybil has caused him to ascend in society, and now he is weighing whether he should stay with Sarah or break up with her. Daisy reminds him of his humble beginnings, and tells him that the days of aristocracy are almost over.
"We're the future, they're the past." Lady Mary tells him. "Make the right choice for you, and not for us." But in the end, he breaks up with Sarah.
Meanwhile, Rose meets a gentleman named Atticus Aldridge. She discovers that the man is descended from Russians and this makes him very attractive to her.
As for Lady Mary, she still hasn't made up her mind between her two suitors. As she meets Charles Blake for dinner in London, she is surprised to find that Lord Gillingham's former fiancée, Mabel Lane Fox is also there. Charles takes advantage of the situation and suggests that maybe Mabel would like to take her fiancé back.
Edith's current arrangement with the Mr. and Mrs. Drew is not working out anymore. The Dowager Countess figures out that Edith is hiding her child at the Drews' place, and together with Aunt Rosamund, they tell Edith that she must take Marigold to a boarding school in France.

"Following last week's altercation, relations between Robert and Cora are strained. Blake's scheming starts to come to fruition, when Mary is unexpectedly pitted against her love rival. Edith receives some terrible news and decides to take drastic measures, leaving people reeling," the synopsis reads.
"Following a mysterious tip off, Baxter becomes embroiled in the investigation of Green's death. Meanwhile, Thomas' condition is deteriorating, prompting him to finally reveal the truth to Baxter. It's not all bad news however, love is in the air for more than one member of the Crawley family," it continued.
The fifth season of "Downton Abbey" is currently airing in the U.K. and will premiere in the U.S. on Jan. 4, 2015 on PBS.
