Another hint for this speculation is the fact that actress Michelle Dockery had spoken about Mary's relationship for the upcoming series. She had explained that although Mary is in a good relationship, her story will take a dramatic turn that will bring Mary into a dark place.

With only two more episodes to go until the end of the season and series, fans are curious to see how Mary's story will come to play with only a few more hours left to cap off the series. With that, there are also several other characters that have complex stories that need to be settled.

Another couple with a questionable fate is the marriage of Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Carson. It was reported that their relationship is currently facing some tension. The previous episode showed the two seemingly getting on each other's nerves. Mrs. Hughes was seen with a little bit of attitude by saying, "How are you at making coffee? There's quite an art to it … I wonder if we could have the hall boy to do some polishing."

"Downton Abbey" is expected to return this Nov. 1.
