'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Spoilers: Rose's Return, Possible Wedding for Edith in Christmas Special
"Downton Abbey" season 6 will come to an end this Christmas, and the finale will feature Rose's return and a possible wedding for Edith.
The Christmas special of "Downton Abbey" season 6 will have fans bawling like a baby because the episode will be emotionally charged and filled with good-byes, reunions, and blossoming love. First of all Rose (Lily James), who went to America with Atticus (Matt Barber), will come home for the special occasion, according to the International Business Times.
The synopsis for the finale of "Downton Abbey" also hinted that Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Edith (Laura Carmichael) will finally come to terms with each other. Edith may decide to air out her secret and the two sisters may be able to bridge the gap between them, the report details.
Another exciting event may also be waiting for Edith. A prop program for Edith and Bertie's (Harry Hadden-Paton) wedding was found on the set after the final shoot. The Wrap said Bertie's mother (Patricia Hodge) was included in the finale's cast, sparking speculations that her presence was required for a wedding, the report relays.
Meanwhile, Barrow's exit was teased in a promotional video. His departure is expected to be an emotional one, the report adds.
The final episode, which will be set on New Year's Eve, will reveal that the characters will finally learn to accept the changes that come with the modern times, Realty Today reports.
"The world is a different place from the way it was, my lord. And Downton Abbey must change with it," Mr. Carson tells Robert in the promo video.
While some are hoping that the series will still come back for another season because there is still a lot of room for the story to continue, word has it that the show will be open-ended.
"Downton Abbey" season 6's last episode will air on Dec. 25 in the United Kingdom on ITV. The season will also premiere in the United States on Jan. 3, 2016 on PBS.
