'Dragon Ball FighterZ' News: Devs Reveal More About Character Selection Process and Post-Launch Plans
Characters were selected based on numerous factors
"Dragon Ball FighterZ" is going to be released sooner rather than later, and ahead of this highly anticipated game's arrival, the developers are revealing more about the work that went into its creation.
Spotted by Shoryuken, Twitter user "@HiagoXYZ" provided a translation of a recent 4Gamer interview featuring the developers of the aforementioned fighting title.
At one point during the conversation, the interviewer asked the developers about how they settled on which characters they wanted to have present in the game.
In response, director Junya Motomura admitted that the task in question was not easy and that there was not one particular factor considered. Instead, developers made sure to weigh several factors before determining whether a character warranted entry into the game, and these ranged from popularity, how a particular character fits inside a fighting game and even the story included.
Producer Tomoko Hiroki added that fighting styles and a character's uniqueness also factored into the selection process. She also noted that they believe the roster currently features great diversity.
Later on during that same interview, the developers were also asked about their plans for "Dragon Ball FighterZ" post-launch.
According to Hiroki, they were thinking about providing support for the game for an extended period of time, but that is still to be determined. Currently though, she confirmed that they have updates and downloadable content already planned.
In all likelihood, the DLC Hiroki referenced during that interview are the additional characters included in the "FighterZ Pass." This DLC bundle will add eight characters to the game post-launch and each fighter will arrive together with corresponding alternate colors, lobby avatars and stamps.
Developers have yet to announce which characters will be included in the "FighterZ Pass," though they will likely use the same selection process again to come up with their choices.
"Dragon Ball FighterZ" is set to be released on Jan. 26.
