'Dragon Quest XI' News: Nintendo Switch Version Expected To Be Similar to PS4 Edition
Still no release date known for the Switch version of the RPG
After months of nothing significant being shared regarding the Nintendo Switch version of "Dragon Quest XI," things finally changed recently thanks to an important revelation.
Series creator Yuji Horii as well as some folks from Square Enix dropped by Epic Games Japan's "Unreal Fest East 2017" recently, and during that event, it was finally revealed that the Switch version was being developed in Unreal Engine 4, Gematsu reported.
The reason for why that reveal is significant is because it seems to confirm that the Switch edition being currently developed is going to look more like the one available now for the PlayStation 4 as opposed to the version playable on the Nintendo 3DS.
It is unclear if Horii actually intended to reveal that tidbit about the Switch version of the role-playing game, but with the information currently out there, fans now know what to expect.
Unfortunately, nothing else was shared about what the Switch version of "Dragon Quest XI" would be like.
For instance, it is unclear if the features exclusive to the PS4 variant of the game will also be included in the Switch version.
The PS4 version of the RPG features a more detailed world and also allows players to choose from two distinct battle styles. It also offers access to the Bowgun Adventure sidequest and the Magic Slots minigame, according to a separate report from Gematsu.
It is possible that those features will also be present in the Switch edition of the game, or developers may choose to introduce other additions.
It may be a while before the developers further flesh out the Switch version of the RPG, especially since they have yet to even announce a release window for it.
For now, the Switch version of the game is only confirmed for Japan.
"Dragon Quest XI" will make its way west sometime next year, though developers have not yet revealed which versions are going to make the trip outside of Japan.
