Drake on Blue Ivy Cover: It's a Child Version of Myself Not Blue Ivy, Explains Rapper
Drake released a picture of his official album cover last Wednesday after announcing the album release date is being pushed back. The album artwork features Drake looking at a child, but while the child was meant to be a younger version of the rapper, some teased that it was actually Blue Ivy instead.
Drake said last week that the release date of his album would have to be pushed back to September 24th. But to keep fans encouraged, the rapper unveiled the first look at his album artwork. In two photos shared on his Instagram account, the 26-year-old is depicted looking at a younger version of himself. Drake explained in a later interview that the artwork was meant to express his life journey thus far, from early youth to now.
"It's a child version of myself staring at myself now. Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it's so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy," he said according to Us Weekly.
The rapper added that his coming album was his most comprehensive piece of work yet.
"Even on past albums when I've been trying to tell this story, I've got there, but maybe not got there all the way," the Grammy winner explained. "And what that album art is to me is, like, this is my most clean, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then. That's really what that cover's about."
But despite Drake's efforts to produce a meaningful album cover, the message was lost on some fans across social media.
"Why is Blue Ivy on Drake's album cover?" one fan tweeted. "Drake put Blue Ivy Carter on his new album art #notmad," another wrote, both referring to Beyonce's daughter.
Regardless of the lost meaning however, thousands of fans still "liked" the artwork.
