Droid Razr and Razr Maxx Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade Now Available

The Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for the Motorola Droid Razr and Razr Maxx, according to a recent Twitter post created by Verizon.

"The Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for manual download for Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx customers," the carrier tweeted earlier today.

In order to access the upgrade, Droid Razr and Razr Maxx users must manually download Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. The software can be downloaded when a user selects settings on their Razr smartphone, then selects About Phone that will lead them to System Updates.

The upgrade was originally scheduled to come to the Motorola Droid Razr on June 12, but when the date arrived there was no frozen treat in sight.

Verizon chose to address its customers through a text message and confirmed that the update was coming soon.

"Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported in Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!" wrote Verizon in the text message sent to Droid Razr smartphones last month.

Motorola also released an updated timetable earlier this year that showed a Q2 update for the Motorola Droid Razr and a June 12 roll out matched up well with that report. Unfortunately, it did not come until almost one month later.

The company also announced when it would roll out updates for some of its other tablets and smartphones in that timetable including the Droid Xyboard 8.2, 10.1, the XOOM WiFi + 3G MZ600, the Atrix 2, the Atrix 4G MB860, Droid 4, Droid Bionic and the Motorola XOOM Family Edition.
