Droid Razr Maxx Release Date Set For January 26

The release date for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx smartphone will be on Jan. 26, according to an announcement made on the official Motorola website.

The company recently announced the addition of the new smartphone to its lineup at this year’s CES along with the debut of the Droid 4.

The Droid Razr Maxx is the follow-up to the high-end Droid Razr smartphone that was released last year on Verizon and will take its place as the new flagship device for the carrier.

Specifications on the Droid 4 include a set similar to that of its predecessor. It will have a 4-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 2.3.5 with an Ice Cream Sandwich update coming soon.

Motorola added that the Droid 4 will be available in the coming weeks. The Droid Razr Maxx will also have 3300 mAh batter the Droid Razr that will provide over 21 hours per charge. It will be available on Verizon for $299.99 with a two-year contract.

Verizon officially introduced the Droid 4 at this year’s Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The carrier describes it as “the thinnest and most powerful 4G LTE QWERTY smartphone offering the power and capabilities to handle even the most demanding lifestyles.”

It stands out among its Android counterparts since it is one of the few new high-end handsets that still includes a physical keyboard, something many smartphone owners miss once they switch to an all touch device.

The Droid Razr Maxx appears to be a slight upgrade from the original version rather than a full re-design. It is slightly thicker than the original Razr thanks to the batter and will cause Verizon to drop it Razr’s price to $169.99.
