Duchess Kate Dress Sells Out: Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress a Hit (VIDEO)
The Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress worn by Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton in Australia on Thursday reportedly sold out within minutes of her being photographed in it.
During day two of the royal tour in Australia, Middleton, who has become somewhat of a fashion icon in recent years, stepped out in the $500 Ikat-print dress which features a fabric belt. Within eight minutes, the high-end blue and white dress sold out online, according to Daily Mail U.K.
Middleton and Prince William, 31, were in the Blue Mountains town of Winnmalee visiting victims of last year's bushfires. Shortly after photos of her in the designer dress surfaced online, website Diane Von Furstenberg.com informed users that the dress "is no longer available on our website."
This is not the first time Middleton, who paired the look with navy cork Stuart Weitzman wedges and a clutch purse, has had this effect on retail outlets – dubbed by some media publications as "the Kate effect."
On April 9 she wore a $450 Tory Burch dress during a playdate with baby George in New Zealand and as usual the look was a hit. Fashionistas scrambled to get their hands on the same short-sleeved open-knit "Paulina" dress worn by the Duchess only for it to be "sold out" a short time after she was seen in it, Us magazine reported.
On Wednesday, Middleton and William were greeted with a a line of waiting dignitaries, including the Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, upon arriving in Sydney.
Middleton wore a yellow Roksanda Ilincić dress which wows onlookers and she shared William's thoughts on her attire while greeting well wishers.
"William said I look like a banana," Middleton told well wisher Heather Easton, who was amongst the large crowd.
The Ryedale wool-crepe dress is from the designer's S/S 2014 collection and reportedly retails for just over $1,500. It features three-quarter length sleeves and white panels at the hem and under the arms which prompted William's comparison.
The royal couple kicked off their royal tour of Australia and New Zealand on April 7 and they are expected to fulfil 48 engagements over three weeks.
