Duck Dynasty Book Reveals Family's Struggles With Drug, Alcohol Abuse

With the recent announcement that the Duck Dynasty clan will release three new books in the coming year, new revelations about drug and alcohol abuse by some of the Robertson family is coming to light.

Si Robertson is revealing in his new book, "Si-cology: Tales and Wisdom from Duck Dynasty's Favorite Uncle," the family's struggles with mental illness, alcoholism, and drug abuse before their rise to fame.

Growing up was not easy Si and his brother, Phil, as their mother "suffered a nervous breakdown and was diagnosed as manic-depressive," Si writes, confessing, "she spent a lot of time in hospitals and the state mental institution."

Si's time in Vietnam also aided in furthering his struggles with alcohol and drug abuse when he came back home after serving in the war.

"It was the only time in my life when I drank heavily," he admits. "Now, I partied during my short stay [in college], but it was different in Vietnam. I was largely drinking to forget where I was. When you're in a place like Vietnam, you get to a point where you don't care anymore."

Howard Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, recently announced that three more "Duck Dynasty" books will be released next year.

Included in the list of upcoming releases is Phil-osophy, the second book from Duck Commander founder and family patriarch Phil Robertson, according to a press release. Robertson's first book, "Happy, Happy, Happy," debuted in the top spot on The New York Times Bestsellers list and over 1 million copies of the book are now in print. His new title will tentatively be released in October 2014.

The other two titles will be released earlier in 2014. Faith in the Duck Blind, which is expected to be available in March, is the first book by Jase Robertson, who runs the manufacturing side of the family's duck call business, according to the Duck Commander website, and is the second-oldest son of Phil and Kay Robertson. The third title, The Women of Duck Commander, will feature stories from some of the female "Duck Dynasty" cast members and will tentatively be released in April.
