'Dumb and Dumber' 2 Saved by Universal; Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels Returning
"Dumb and Dumber" 2 was picked up by Universal after being discarded by Warner Bros. studios, who lost interest in the project. The new has excited fans of the original movie as actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are expected to return to their moronic, hilarious characters of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne.
"Dumb and Dumber" 2, which is tentatively titled "Dumb and Dumber To" for effect, was revisited by the writers of the original buddy comedy, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, along with Sean Anders and John Morris. The film will have to be made quickly, as Daniels has to head back for another season of "The Newsroom" on HBO and Carrey has a bank heist comedy in the works, according to Deadline.com.
The "Dumb and Dumber" sequel will reportedly find the two friends on another road trip, but "it's 17 or 18 years later … It's today," Peter Farrelly told Moviefone last April. It will also be PG-13, like the original.

The project will be financed by Red Granite, who is set to pour $35 million into the film- potentially a smart investment, as many remember the popular 1994 film and many fans are eager to forget the unofficial 2003 prequel "Dumb and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd," which had terrible reviews.
Warner Bros. originally wanted the project, but things seemed to go south from there. In June, Carrey decided not to do the long-awaited sequel because the studio seemed uninterested in it.
"I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title," the actor said in a statement. He has since returned, according to reports.
"Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it," Daniels told Crave Online in August of 2012. "They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren't trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do 'Newsroom' in November. So they're going, 'Why don't we just do it right? Let's get everybody organized to go next May or June.' If everything works out on the business side, that's what we'll do but I think there's more hope than ever."
Warner Bros. apparently dropped "Dumb and Dumber To" because they didn't see the sequel making much money, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They also took a hit with March move "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" with Steve Carrell, which Carrey backed out of: it cost $30 million to make, but only took in $22 million.
