Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson News: Wrestler-Turned-Actor Starts Promoting His 2019 'Shazam' Movie

While Warner Bros. and DC's Shazam is slated for a 2019 release date, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who is slated to play the titular role, has already been active in promoting the film whose script is yet to be finished. Apart from donning a Superman costume at the recently held MTV Movie Awards and poking fun at Marvel superhero actors Chris Pratt and Chris Evans, the actor also wore a Shazam shirt and announced that the superhero he is set to breathe life into is coming.

Among the long roster of DC superheroes, there is no denying that Shazam is one of the most powerful. In fact, his name is actually an acronym made up of a Biblical character and Greek gods; S is for Solomon's wisdom, H is for Hercules's strength, A is for Atlas' stamina, Z for Zeus' power, A is for Achilles' courage, and M for Mercury's speed.

Despite the power that comes with the superhero, though, he is one of the less-featured and promoted characters of DC. However, come 2019, DC fans may become more familiar of the character and the might that comes with him.

Apart from actively promoting "Shazam," Johnson has also expressed his desire for his character to come face to face with DC's most powerful male superhero, Superman. When asked on Twitter by a fan if there is a possibility for his character to share the screen with the Man of Steel, Johnson's reply was:

"Won't happen in the first movie, but nothing would make me happier. He's got it comin." He also added the hashtags "Black Adam vs Superman" and "Shazam" to his reply.

With "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" slowly being pulled out from the theaters after almost a month of showing, DC fans can now look forward to upcoming DC superhero movies in the can. After "Suicide Squad" opening this August, DC fans will have to wait for June next year for another DC offering via "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League: Part 1" in November 2017. While it's true that "Shazam's" 2019 showing may be still out of sight, fans can only hope that it is worth the wait.
