Ed Sheeran Fourth Album Update: Singer Teases Drastic Change in Sound in Next Release 'Subtract'

Ed Sheeran continues to knock it out of the park with his new album "Divide," but he believes he would not enjoy the same level of success in his fourth album.

The singer-songwriter has smashed all sorts of music-related records with his latest project with songs such as "Shape of You" and "Perfect" still making waves although each and every song on his album is a certified hit.

In an interview with The Times, Sheeran said that his fourth album will be inspired by the legendary Bruce Springsteen. He hinted at a drastic change in sound that he predicts will not be as huge as "Divide" in terms of sales, but will be most appreciated nonetheless.

My plan is a lo-fi album that will be my lowest-selling, but most loved.

It turns out that fans have "Game of Thrones" actor Kit Harington to thank for this new direction Sheeran is taking for his next album.

I only heard Springsteen recently. I was with Kit from "Game of Thrones." We had a night out in New York, got back to his hotel to drink more, and he played "Atlantic City."

Sheeran has been working on his fourth album, which is expected to be titled "Subtract" for six years now. He revealed last June that it has been in the works that it might be another three or four years before he completes it. His latest discovery with Harington might also impact that.

That being said, the 26-year-old says that it might be a while before the new album sees the light of day. There is no need to rush though, with "Divide" still huge nine months after its launch.

The Grammy Award winner continues to dominate the music scene with his latest release. He claims the top spot in the Billboard UK singles and album charts this week.

"Perfect" is at number one for the second week while "Divide" once again takes the summit for the 18th time. It was back in August when the album last enjoyed the spot.

Sheeran has also been collaborating with a handful of artists, releasing different duet versions of "Perfect" with the likes of Beyonce and Andrea Bocelli.
