Eddie Murphy Hoax? Comedian Reported Dead

Eddie Murphy is not dead, though reports on Twitter may say otherwise.

A recent trend on Twitter says "RIP Eddie Murphy," but the actor-comedian is alive and well. This time, however, fans are catching on to these trends faster and questioning them before re-Tweeting a celeb's apparent death.

MediaFetcher.com reported that Murphy was killed in a car accident. "Actor Eddie Murphy died in a single vehicle crash between Ipswich and Williowbank in Queesland as confirmed by Royal Queensland Police," read the statement.

Other media personnel recognized the report as false, given that Murphy was nowhere near Australia at the time of the reported incident. Twitter users, instead of repeating the news via their feeds, happily tweeted about Murphy's life and poked fun at the media hoaxes.

"RIP Eddie Murphy? Man, Twitter kills more people each year than cars, airplanes and trucks combined!" tweeted Adam Clawley.

Yamen Laymona added, "RIP Eddie Murphy is trending. Poor guy, I wonder if he even knows he's dead yet."

Some, however, have either not caught on to the joke or have a good sense of irony. Siatrio Adhi P tweeted, "RIP Eddie Murphy, i (sic) always remember RoboCop." User Maryam also expressed condolences: "RIP Eddie Murphy!! I loved your movies and I'll always will (sic) love them!"

Earlier this week Reba McEntire was declared dead after falling off a mountain. The country superstar used her own Twitter account to reassure fans she was just fine. Other celebs apparently dead include Cher, Charlie Sheen, Kevin Bacon and Tiger Woods.
