ELCA Releases Studies on Sexuality
The 14-member Task Force on the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) Studies on Sexuality released its long-awaited report on homosexuality on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005. The report, which took nearly four years to draft, generally called for no change to its current policy prohibiting the ordination of active homosexuals and blessings of homosexual unions, but recommended bishops refrain from disciplining those who violate the policies.
According to recent statements released by both conservatives and liberals within the 5 million member denomination, not many are satisfied with the task forces works; conservatives criticized the report as being misleading, liberals called the report repressive.
