'Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim' DLC News, Release Date: Survival Mode to Be Added to Game but It Won't Be Free

"Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" is getting a new downloadable content (DLC) that will add a Survival Mode to the hit game that will make things more challenging than ever before.

However, it will be offered through Creation Club, the new paid player-made content driven service introduced by Bethesda Game Studios in "Fallout 4."

This means that "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" gamers will have to shell out money to get the new Survival Mode, something that they are not happy about since they believe it is very much like the mods out there that are being offered for free and the fact that the Survival Mode in "Fallout 4" is offered complimentary.

Survival Mode, as the name suggests, will bring the difficulty of "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" to a whole new level. Players will have to keep everything in check from stamina and sleeping hours to hunger and warmth to stay alive.

In the new "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" mode, players will have to find a way to keep themselves warm in order to lower the risks of hypothermia. Bethesda also warns that "taking a swim in an ice-cold river can make for a quick death" so players would want to stay away from taking a dip in freezing water.

Also in the Survival Mode, failure to eat regularly is likely going to hit their character's stamina, which will result in a weakened and slower pace when using weapons and fighting in general.

Fast travel is also not available so players will have to go by foot or horseback if they wish to go somewhere. To add to the difficulty, the carry weight was also reduced so players should make sure they do not lug around more than what they could.

Getting a good night's sleep is important too unless players want fatigue that will diminish their available magicka. The more fatigued the character gets, the less effective the potions will be. Gamers would want to make sure they find a bed to sleep on and not outside especially in cold regions. Spending the night on a bed helps them level up too.

Keeping the health up will be extra challenging because in the "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" Survival Mode, players lose their ability to regenerate it. Diseases like food poisoning also pose a more serious threat so they ought to be more conscious of what they eat.

Bethesda will be offering the "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" Survival Mode for free one week after its launch. Those who miss out on this will have to purchase it for a price yet to be revealed.
