'Elementary' Season 6 Spoilers: Joan Deals with a Friend's Death

Joan (Lucy Liu) will deal with the loss of a dear friend in the upcoming season of "Elementary."

New details have been revealed regarding the storyline of the new installment. Executive producer Rob Doherty has revealed to TVLine that the death of someone important would force Joan to reflect about her choices in life. This person will reportedly question why she stayed with Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) for so long and how her life could have been better if she did not.

"Joan will lose someone who was very close to her once upon a time and she will learn that this person made certain assessments regarding the decisions Joan has made as a professional. It's going to give her cause to look at choices she's made and choices that she has right in front of her: Might she be a more complete person if she weren't in a partnership with Sherlock Holmes?" the EP teased.

Spoilers for season 6 indicate that the relationship between Joan and Sherlock will remain strained. He has yet to explain to her why he did not attend Shinwell's (Nelsan Ellis) funeral. Sherlock will also have to tell his partner about the prognosis that he might have a brain tumor. It has been teased that he would get the courage to share his fears quite soon, but it could be too late.

Still, Sherlock and Joan have been together for a while that it would be difficult for her to resist his pleas. If he really ends up sick, Joan will do her best to assist him in any way she can, even if it means temporarily curtailing their consultant work with the NYPD. Speculations are rife that Sherlock will want to stay out of the limelight and avoid the company. Joan will be there for him every step of the way.

"Elementary" season 6 is rumored to air in 2018.
