'Elementary' Season Casting News, Update: Gregson Gets A Love Interest

Looks like it won't only be Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) who will be getting some loving when CBS' hit detective drama TV series "Elementary" returns to the small screen to continue its current fourth season.

As announced via Entertainment Weekly, the show has signed "Sideways" star Virginia Madsen to play the guest role of Paige Cowen. The latter, as reported by the media outlet, will be a potential love interest for Aidan Quinn's alter ego, Gregson.

According to the details from EW, Cowen is a former NYPD detective who has a romantic relationship with the captain of 11th Precinct. As it happen, the newcomer got involved in a scandal that forced her to quit from the force. However, in order to protect Gregson, she has to keep their relationship a secret.

The actress, who also appeared on various stints including "Witches of East End" and "Hatfields & McCoys," is slated to debut as the aforementioned character in an episode scheduled to air early spring.

The news comes after the show confirmed a romantic pair for the main character. The separate report from EW said that the sleuth will also have a potential love interest in the person of Fiona Helbron. The role will be headlined by "Nurse Jackie" star Betty Gilpin.

The new player in the show is described as a "brilliant and socially awkward software engineer" who met Mr. Holmes and his side-kick, Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), during a murder investigation.

As further described over at the publication, it was found out that Fiona is a "neuro-atypical," who, in a layman's term, is close to be considered as a "high-functioning autistic." Unlike Sherlock, Miss Helbron is not good when it comes to reading people. She is also an uptight and strict follower of the rules and cannot lie as also opposed to the deductive genius.

Despite their differences, the two characters will still be able to find a common ground for them to work with. As said by EW, Fiona and Sherlock will realize among themselves that they are two "odd but gifted people navigating life on their own terms."

Fiona debuts in Episode 9 titled "Murder Ex Machina" which is slated to air this Jan. 21.

The Season 4B premiere of "Sherlock," meanwhile, kicks off this Thursday, Jan. 7, on CBS.
