Elizabeth Banks: Make-Up For 'Hunger Games' Took 4-5 Hours Daily
Elizabeth Banks revealed the grueling daily makeup routine necessary in order to get into character as Effie Trinket on the set of "Hunger Games."
However, the 39-year-old actress is not complaining about the long hours in the makeup chair. Instead, Banks appreciated the tedious process of bringing the popular character to life in the mega-hit film series.
"Effie required a total transformation and it took about three to four hours every day from when I arrive to when I go on set to shoot," she explained to BangShowbiz. "But it's worth it because there's no Effie without all that."
"The Hunger Games" follows the post-apocalyptic world of Panem where teens must fight to the death in the annual Hunger Games. Banks stars alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, among others.
Banks' character, Effie Trinket, is recognized for her over-the-top hairstyles and elaborate, colorful makeup to match gaudy clothing.
The actress also noted that being able to "disappear" behind Effie heightens the audiences' experience, since they can nearly forget it's actually the "30 Rock" star on the screen.
"It really helps me to get into character, I love to disappear," Banks said. "I'm very happy that I see Effie on screen and not me."
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opens in theaters on Nov. 22.
Banks is currently promoting the film, and attended the worldwide premiere in London this week.
"Awesome time meeting the fans at the London World Premiere of the Hunger Games #CatchingFire. Y'all were crazy!" she tweeted.
"The Hunger Games" films are based on the books of the same name by Suzanne Collins. Following the release of "Catching Fire," Banks and her co-stars will appear in the "Mockingjay" two-part sequel films, expected for release in 2014 and 2015.
