Ellen DeGeneres Buys Brad Pitt’s Malibu Home
Ellen DeGeneres has purchased Brad Pitt’s Malibu residence for $12 million.
The property, in the desirable Encinal Bluffs area, overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is complete with a state-of-the-art security system, pool, tennis court, lush gardens, and access to a private beach.
DeGeneres expressed an interest in the home around Thanksgiving when she and wife Portia De Rossi put their home, which has been featured in Architectural Digest, on the market for $49 million.
The couple has intentions to downsize Pitt’s former home from about 15,000-square feet of interior space to 4,000, according to People magazine.
The host of CBS’ “The Ellen Show” has kept busy this holiday season. Earlier last month, DeGeneres was named a special envoy by the Obama Administration for raising AIDS Awareness. The comedian and actress will use her fame to combat the spread of the disease in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as raise global responsiveness of AIDS.
Announcing the news, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said DeGeneres would “bring her sharp wit and big heart, and her impressive TV audience and 8 million followers on Twitter” to the table in support of the U.S. efforts against HIV/AIDS.
DeGeneres served as judge on “American Idol” during its 9th season and has hosted both the Academy Awards and the Primetime Emmys during her career. She has earned thirteen Emmys and numerous other awards for her work as well as her charitable efforts.
Also a humanitarian, Pitt, a self-professed architectural buff, purchased the 4-bedroom home in 2005 for $8 million following his divorce from Jennifer Aniston. The 47-year-old actor shares six children with long-time partner, Angelina Jolie. The family currently lives in Scotland while Pitt films his latest project, “World War Z.”
Pitt and Jolie also have homes in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Cambodia, France, and Italy.
