Eminem Rebukes Romney's School Cranbrook
Mitt Romney has found himself on the back foot over the past few days after the Washington Post reported allegations that he was involved in a bullying incident nearly 50 years ago while attending prestigious prep school, Cranbrook. It has now emerged that Romney's school was the one rap singer Eminem was rebuking in his 8 Mile film.
Eminem's 8 Mile movie was released in 2002 and was loosely based on his life. His character in the film, called Rabbit, rebukes his rival rapper's privileged roots saying, "But I know something about you. You went to Cranbrook, that's a private school. What's the matter dawg, you embarrassed? This guy's a gangsta? His real name's Clarence."
An 18-year-old Romney was part of a boy group who gathered together to hold down another student perceived as different. The group allegedly held the boy down while Romney snipped off his bleached blond hair.
The victim, John Lauber, is dead now, but The Washington Post reported when that he was "perpetually teased for his nonconformity and presumed homosexuality" and screamed for help.
That incident happened at Cranbrook; to which Eminem's rap in 8 Mile referenced:
But I know something about you
You went to Cranbrook, that's a private school
What's the matter dawg, you embarrassed?
This guy's a gangsta? His real name's Clarence
And Clarence lives at home with both parents
And Clarence's parents have a real good marriage
This guy don't wanna battle, he's shook
'Cause ain't no such things as half-way crooks'
He's scared to death, he's scared to look
at his ******* yearbook, **** Cranbrook!
