Emmy Nominations 2011 Pose Few Surprises
The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards have been scheduled to air Sunday, and few can agree that the nominees make for an exciting competition.
Top American television series await announcements granting them the iconic gold statuette, and many people have weighed in agreeing on likely winners.
Expected to dominate the drama category is AMC’s hit series “Mad Men,” finishing a strong fourth season this year. Four members of the show’s cast are up for 2011 Outstanding Actor awards, and “Mad Men” is widely speculated to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.
Also nominated in the dramatic category are series “Friday Night Lights” and “Boardwalk Empire,” both predicted to be the main competition, if any, for “Mad Men.”
Remaining Dramatic Series nominees are shows “Dexter” and “Game of Thrones.”
Selecting nominees for this year’s Outstanding Comedy Series provided no real challenge to voters, and even less surprise. Predicted to take home the award is “Modern Family,” but first must beat “Parks and Recreation,” which offers Amy Poehler’s comedic talents.
“30 Rock” actors Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin both represent the Outstanding Comedy-nominated series, earning nominations for Outstanding Actor and Actress in the genre, respectively.
Also up for Outstanding Comedy Series are “The Office,” “The Big Bang Theory,” and “Glee.”
The Emmy Awards also honor reality television series and competitions, and this year’s nominations were less obvious selections, including series “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Project Runway.”
Anticipated to win Outstanding Reality-Competition Program is “The Amazing Race,” but the show must first dominate remaining nominees, “Dancing with the Stars,” “Top Chef,” and “American Idol.”
The list of Emmy Award presenters proves exciting, with such stars such as Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Drew Barrymore, and Jimmy Fallon, among many more celebrities.
Nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, Glee’s Jane Lynch will host the affair, which airs Sunday on Fox at 8 p.m. EST.
