'Empire' season 2 plot news: Teaser reveals Cookie visiting Lucious

The most recent teaser for the second season of hit series "Empire" was released last Saturday.

FOX released a promotional video titled "Far From Grace" that showed Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, in prison. He was seen pushing through the challenge of being there when he received a visit from Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji P. Henson.

The two are seen reminiscing about the challenges they have faced together. Lucious even told Cookie, "It's crazy how I can love you and hate you at the same moment. Look at how much we've been through. I want my family together."

The synopsis of the premiere episode was also released. The upcoming season will begin a couple of months after the arrest of Lucious. It is confirmed that Cookie, Andre, played by Trai Byers; Hakeem, played by Bryshere Y. Grey; and Anika, played by Grace Gealey will continue with their mission of taking Empire Records from Lucious. Meanwhile, Cookie will also be holding a concert consisting of several celebrities, in order to show support for Lucious' freedom.

Titled "The Devils Are Here," the synopsis reads, "Season 2 picks up three months after the shocking arrest and incarceration of Empire Entertainment head Lucious Lyon. Still in federal lockup, Lucious is trying to run Empire from inside, while a headline-grabbing state prosecutor hangs her political ambitions on bringing him down — no matter what it takes." Further it says, "Meanwhile, Cookie stages a star-studded #FreeLucious concert in his support, while scheming with Andre, Hakeen, Anika, and the business-savvy Mimi Whiteman to finalize the hostile takeover of Empire."

Showrunner Ilene Chaiken shared her sentiments for the season to come. She explained that they hope to continue the story of Empire, focusing on the trials of the African American family in a way that will relate to people of different colors. The team hopes to produce a series that will remain honest and will continue to shock and instigate emotion from the audiences.

The second season of Empire is set to begin on Sept. 23.
