'Empire' Season 2 - Spoilers for Episode 17: Executive Producer Explains Why Lucious' Mother will Bring Challenges for the Family
Fans can expect the finale of "Empire" to bring more drama to the small screens.
The season finale of "Empire" will present challenges for Lucious, played by Terrence Howard, as his mother brings trouble to his life.
Lucious' mother, Leah Walker, was recently re-introduced to the show. The character was premiered by actress Kelly Rowland. However, the most recent episode of the series showed the character portrayed by Leslie Uggams.
With that, fans can expect her presence to bring unwanted problems for Lucious and the rest of the Lyon family. The executive producer of the series Ilene Chaiken shared some insight about the character's purpose in the finale of "Empire" season 2.
She explained that Walker will put the rest of the family in chaos. She stated that Cookie, played by Taraji P. Henson, will know that Walker will only bring issues to her family which will force her stay out of the radar to be safe.
According to Variety, Chaiken said, "She needs to go back where she's safe, where we're safe, where she's taken care of. Cookie is being genuine and she's also being protective of Lucious and the family when there's so much at stake."
In addition, it was stated that Walker will put Lucious in danger. The previous episode ended with Lucious and Walker in a room together. His mother was seen holding a knife, threatening Lucious' life.
Chaiken then explained that there is more trouble ahead for Lucious. She said, "Lucius telling everyone, "You don't understand what you've done, you don't understand how destructive she can be," is going to be taken as another one of those manipulative things when in fact what we're seeing is that there's a great deal of truth to what Lucious is saying. This woman is a danger to him and perhaps the whole family."
"Empire" Season 2 Episode 17 is expected to hit theaters this May 11 on FOX at 9 p.m. EDT.
