'Empire' Season 2 Release Date, Cast News: New Trailer Released, Mariah Carey to Join

Heads up for all the "Empire" fans out there. The hit show is coming back for a bigger second season and more drama, twists and of course, singing awaits in the story of the family dynasty. And just like the first season, this series sequel is going to be star-studded with guest appearances.

To start off, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels confirmed that Mariah Carey will be making an appearance in the next season. He confirmed this while with the pop diva during a ceremony for the unveiling of her star in Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to the Franchise Herald.

But showrunner Ilene Chaiken stressed that the show is going to be about the main characters and not the guest stars. They want to remind the followers of the show that while they are getting big names, they are still going to put focus in the story of the Lyons family.

"We're actually being really careful not to let it change the dynamic of the show — and frankly, not to have so many high-profile names that it feels like their show and not the Lyon show," Chaiken told Deadline.

Stars who will appear on season two include: Maris Tomei, Pitbull, Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Ludacris, Adam Rodriguez, Andre Royo and Tyra Ferrell, according to E Online.

The FOX also just released another trailer and it's quite promising. The trailer shows Anika (Grace Gealey), coming back with a vengeance and she has teamed up with Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) to try to take over the company. Lucious (Terrence Howard) is also seen plotting with Jamal (Jussie Smollett) to handle his problem with Andre. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) is also plotting to get her company back but her greatest ally is against her. And contrary to the united front of the Lyon brothers in season one, all three boys are going to be at each other's throats in the coming season.

Sounds like there's going to be a war between kingdoms of music. "Empire" season two is set to debut on Sept. 23.
