End Times Prophecy Website Says 2017 Disasters, Signs Pointing to Jesus Christ's Imminent Return
An End Times biblical prophecy website has claimed that a rise in natural disasters and other signs could mean that Jesus Christ's return to earth is imminent, though other Christians have shot own such predictions.
As MailOnine reported, the website Signs of the End Times has been increasing its warnings, based on their interpretation of biblical passages and recent events, that Jesus Christ may be close to returning.
"The prophecy of Daniel 2 alone shows we are in the 'time of the end,' and all the other evidence proves we are in the very end times. The Biblical signs are clear for all to see, and after reading through this site with open eyes, even the scoffers will struggle to argue against it," the website argues, pointing to a long list of various occurrences it considers signs of the end of the world, such as an increase of earthquakes this year.
"Sure, many people throughout history have been proclaiming that they were living in the last days and the end of the world was nigh, and some of the Bible signs have always existed from the early days. But never has there been a time before when ALL these events were evident in so many diverse places and with such frequency and intensity," it adds.
The group, which describes itself as a "self funding internet ministry," insists that it is not actually issuing a prediction that the world will end in 2017.
"We are NOT here to set dates or times. We are here only to warn the world that the second coming of Jesus Christ is NEAR, even 'at the door' ... Matthew 24:33 ... 'So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.'"
The website's arguments were shot down by Carl Olson, however, editor of Catholic World Report.
"Date-setting is not an option. It could be many more centuries or millennia before Christ comes again – or it could be very soon," Olson said in an article published by the Daily Star.
"Anticipation and readiness need not turn into despair, fear, or the error of date setting. It means nothing in the end," he added.
In January, Rabbi Yosef Berger of King David's Tomb in Mount Zion, Jerusalem, argued that there are astronomical signs that could point to Christ's return sometime in 2022.
Berger noted that astronomers foresee two large stars colliding and creating a light visible from Earth, which harken back to a prediction made by 12th century Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, who linked the appearance of such light with the return of Jesus.
World renowned evangelist the Rev. Billy Graham has warned on a number of occasions against trusting those who claim to know the date of Jesus' second coming, arguing that humans can not know such information.
"Jesus warned us against making precise predictions about His return; only God knows exactly when Christ will come again to bring an end to the present world system," Graham said.
