Erin Andrews Seeks $10M in 'Peephole' Lawsuit
ESPN sports reporter Erin Andrews has filled a $10 million lawsuit over a secret video recording of her through a peephole while she was nude in a Nashville hotel room back in 2008.
Andrews, who is one of the most popular reporters for ESPN, is seeking $6 million from the West End Marriott, and $4 million from Michael Barrett, the Chicago man who pleaded guilty of stalking Andrews and sentenced to over two years in prison in 2010, Reuters has reported.
According to Davidson County Circuit Court records, the suit was originally filed last year and was then re-filed to make sure the statute of limitations did not run out.
Andrews was in the Tennessee city to cover a Vanderbilt university football game.
According to the lawsuit, Andrews said the hotel was guilty of negligence for allowing Barrett to know that Andrews was staying in the hotel and then allowing him to book a room next to her own.
Also included in the lawsuit filed, Andrews said the hotel was negligent for failing to discover Barrett altered the peephole of the plaintiff's hotel room door which enabled Barrett to secretly record the videos while she was in her hotel room.
He posted the videos on the internet which then went viral.
The suit said the videotaping and posting of the nude images continues to cause Andrews "great emotional distress and embarrassment."
Marriott declined comment on the lawsuit.
"Unfortunately we do not comment on pending litigation," said Jeff Flaherty, Marriott's director of public relations.
Mary A. Parker, Andrews' attorney, declined to comment on the case.
Andrews began working for ESPN in 2004 as a Hockey reporter. Barrett is currently serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Edgefield, South Carolina.
