Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem
Prayer Points From an African Evangelical Perspective
Few American Evangelicals ever go into Palestine but yet they raise hundreds of millions of dollars each year that is distributed through Israeli entities for the Jewish people. American Evangelical leaders have been repeatedly invited to meet with Palestinian Evangelical leaders and don't but they can always find time for photo-ops with top Israeli government officials to demonstrate how they are "Standing with Israel."
While they are standing with Israel, our brothers and sisters in Palestine, who are some of the few Christians striving to stay in the Middle East, feel abandoned and need you to pray and stand with them.
If for some reason you can't help them, they ask that at least you should not harm them by strengthening the machinery that causes them pain.
The United States has given Israel over $100 billion for military purposes over past decades and continues to give $3 billion annually. Our Palestinian brothers and sisters feel that U.S. dollars have been used against the Palestinian people to collectively punish and indiscriminately harm them and this causes them great pain.
As matters stand today, the Church in the USA is possibly better placed than most of us in the rest of the globe to advocate with the United States government in ways that can change the future for Muslims, Christian and Jews in the Middle East. It could very well be that America is indeed "exceptional" and that God shed His grace on your large constituency of Evangelicals with blessings for such as time as this.
I challenge you to reread the Gospels and consider how your love for Israel and the evidence of your love of Christ and His commands are matching up? I share this because I believe that the recent violence in Jerusalem calls all of us to search our hearts and ask God how we should more effectively be in line with His will and love when we are praying for the Peace of Jerusalem.
Instead of trusting in military might and barrier walls for her future, pray for Israel to be a blessing to the nations once again and return to her own prophetic traditions found in Micah 6:8 to "act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.".
If we are followers of Christ and truly believe that Jesus is the Hope of all the world this is the only biblical way we can eternally bless and stand with Israel in the Holy Land today.
