Evelyn Lozada Breaks Silence, Says Chad Johnson 'Needs Help'
Evelyn Lozada has spoken out for the first time since her estranged husband Chad Johnson assaulted her during a dispute over a receipt for condoms.
The "Basketball Wives" star reportedly moved out of their marital home on Saturday after she was released from hospital and spoke out on Tuesday regarding Johnson's claims that she was actually the aggressor.
"I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me," Lozada told TMZ.com. "It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well."
Lozada's statement has fueled speculation that she is preparing to file for divorce from the 11-year NFL veteran after just five weeks of marriage.
"Evelyn is no longer at the home she shared with Ocho," a source told Hollywood Life. "It's an unfortunate situation."
According to police, Lozada confronted Johnson, 34, about a receipt for condoms that she found which is reportedly when violence ensued, according to Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle.
"It gets pretty heated," Engle told The Sun Sentinel. "By the time they get home here in Davie it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say, she has a good laceration on her forehead."
Lozada suffered a 3-inch laceration to her forehead and Johnson was arrested at the scene and spent the night at Broward County jail before posting $2500 bail the following day.
The Miami Dolphins fired him over the incident, and the pair's upcoming reality TV show "Ev and Ocho" was subsequently canceled by the Vh1 network also over the debacle.
New reports suggest that there was another woman involved in the couple's brief marriage. Beverly Shiner, a 30-year-old mother of two, claims that after meeting Johnson via Twitter in January the pair engaged in a months-long affair.
"It wasn't just a one night thing, he always said he wanted to move in with me, and said if he had I'd be pregnant by then. He kept asking if I wanted to have more kids. Once, when I was at his house, I asked what would happen if Evelyn walked in right now, and he said she wouldn't care," Shiner told RadarOnline.com.
"He said, 'I'm not doing anything different than what every other man is doing,' he thinks it is fine to cheat. I feel he was completely disrespectful and he led me on," she added.
