Evelyn Lozada First TV Interview: 'I Still Love' Chad Johnson (VIDEO)
Evelyn Lozada sat down for a TV interview with ABC news anchor Amy Robach, and the candid discussion about her marriage to Chad Johnson left her in tears.
Lozada, 37, spoke out in her first interview since Johnson, her estranged husband, assaulted her on Aug. 11. The reality TV star has since filed for divorce and during the interview she revealed that she cannot see herself speaking to the disgraced NFL player at this time.
"It would have to take some time. I love him very much and I think us being away from each other is the right thing. It's like what is he gonna say...sorry?" Lozada said.
When asked what she would like for Johnson, 34, to say if they ever spoke again, Lozada said that she simply wants him to get help.
"I would like for him to tell me that he got help you know? And that he's working on himself. I always ... when I'm talking to my sister or my girlfriend I say 'I want the best for him, I really do and he's a good guy that made a bad choice,'" she explained.
"He loves football and he's very driven and a great dad. He made a bad choice that destroyed his life and I hate that I'm connected to that ... I do. But it was his choice, it wasn't mine," she added.
On the night of Aug. 11, the "Basketball Wives" star allegedly confronted Johnson, her husband of just five weeks at the time, over a receipt that she had found for condoms when violence ensued, according to reports.
She allegedly told police that Johnson headbutted her, causing a 3-inch laceration on her forehead. Lozada was treated at the scene and Johnson was arrested and taken in to police custody before posting $2,500 bail the following day.
"It gets pretty heated," Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle told The Sun Sentinel. "By the time they get home here in Davie it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say, she has a good laceration on her forehead."
Following the incident, Lozada filed for divorce from Johnson, who subsequently lost his position with the Miami Dolphins as a result of the allegations after just 40 days of marriage.
Prior to the interview with ABC, Lozada had only spoken through a public statement to TMZ, which she released shortly after the incident.
"I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me," Lozada told TMZ.com. "It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well."
The full interview will air on ABC at 11:30 p.m. EST.
