Explosion at O'Hare Airport Injures Baggage Handler

Sources claim there was a small explosion at O'hare International Airport in Chicago on Tuesday morning that injured a baggage handler.

The explosion was believed to be caused by a battery-shipping container, according to Chicago Fire Department Commander Will Knight.

Knight said, in a press release, the explosion could have been "an accidental discharge."

Criminal activity is not suspected. However, the incident triggered a response from Hazmat to a baggage claim area of the Chicago airport. The area is not open to public.

The bag was checked in the C Concourse, according to a representative for the Transportation Security Administration.

The United Airlines employee suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized.

Fire department and rescue personnel were dispatched to the explosion site. Chicago Police Bomb and Arson were also on the scene.
