'Extant' season 3 news, cast, spoilers: Why the show can still possibly go on

"Extant" season 2 already ended; however, the show's fate is still hanging by a thread as no confirmation of whether it will be coming back for a third season has been made. It has always been common knowledge that if a show doesn't get a go signal before a finale, then there's a fifty-fifty chance for it to go on.

Despite having Halle Berry and Dean Morgan lead the show, it seems that the show may not have pulled enough ratings to get a green light to go on. However, according to Bustle, all may not be lost for the show. It is known that the second installment for the show was confirmed only around October last year, so fans should wait until around next month for any further news. It is also a good sign that cancellation hasn't been announced. It could very well mean that CBS is still trying to weigh the pros and cons of the show continuing on.

Although the show still has a lot of room for improvement, Berry and Morgan may still be able to reel in audiences later on. The powerful cast is not something to be underestimated, especially when Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter, is also part of it. The show's story line also has a lot of advantages that can be taken for more interesting possibilities in the future. It is also said that CBS may not be able to afford losing another show right now, as the cancellation of "Under the Dome" will mean that a slot for the summer lineup would open, and if Extant gets canceled, then there would be too much of a void to be filled.

However, one of the things holding back the show may be the high production cost. Apparently, having Berry and Morgan may be a blessing and a curse for the show. Having an A-list cast may have not technically worked out great for their ratings just yet, but the potential is still there. However, production budget may not be able to hold up until the show actually garners enough ratings.

Fans will have to wait until next month to see if further news will be released about the renewal.
