EyeFly Film Brings 3D to iPod Touch and iPhone 5 Without Glasses
EyeFly 3D Film brings the effects of 3 dimensional movies to devices such as the iPhone 5 and iPod Touch.
The product resembles a screen protector and consists of 500,000 miniaturized lens structures that measure about one-thousandth the width of a human hair. The cover functions as a filter that works with iOS and Android apps to render stereoscopic 3D content for playback.
EyeFly 3D was developed by Singapore-based researchers and is being brought to the market by Nanovue, who is currently working on apps to convert existing 2D content to stereoscopic 3D.

CNET had the opportunity to test out the EyeFly 3D film and found one major drawback as it dulled the resolution on the iPhone 5 a bit. It also altered the appearance of text and icons, making them have jagged edges.
The EyeFly 3D film will retail for $34.95, providing smartphone users with a much cheaper option for viewing 3D content. The LG Optimus 3D Max, now available for pre-order, allows users to view 3D content out of the box. Instead of purchasing this expensive handset, iPhone 5 owners will have the opportunity to purchase the EyeFilm 3D, which will ship at the end of this month.
The product was created by a team of seven developers and took two years to complete.
The company is currently working with distributors to bring the product to the U.S., U.K., Australia, Thailand and Singapore. The only versions available for pre-order at this time are for the iPhone 5 and new iPod Touch.
Nanovue also hopes to release a version that works with the iPad and other popular Android devices sometime in the near future.
