Facebook News: Social Media Giant To Release A Cheaper VR Headset
The advent of modern technology made the current forms of communication and expression that people enjoy possible. With the world wide web came social media sites, where people could reach out their friends and families from a distance. Facebook has especially been active in the last few years as they have been working toward developing their own streaming service.
Recent reports have revealed that the social media giant has reached the virtual reality world as well as they are planning to release an Oculus VR headset.
The Oculus Go markets as a cheaper headset, which Facebook thinks will entice more consumers compared to the usual VR headsets that are available in the market. According to reports, Facebook's most recent revelation is in line with their mission to bring more a billion people into the VR technology, which is currently inaccessible to those with a limited budget. The headset was unveiled during this year's Oculus Connect, a conference organized by Facebook's virtual reality department.
"For the Oculus Go, think of it as a similar experience from a graphics standpoint to the Gear VR, because it's a similar kind of platform—but with our latest lenses," said Facebook's chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer in an interview with Fortune. "The sharpness of text and a bunch of other things will be quite a bit improved. But in terms of the graphics, for the developers [building apps] for the Gear VR, this would be similar."
Furthermore, Facebook's chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that the VR technology is a goldmine of opportunity waiting to be discovered. The Oculus Go VR headset and controllers are scheduled to hit the store by 2018. It will cost $199 for the headset, and $399 for the controllers.
Fans are expecting more information on the highly anticipated VR set, as this may well be the cheapest and best bargain they can get in the current market.
