'Family Movie Night' Premieres 'Game of Your Life' This Friday

Walmart and P&G will premiere “Game of Your Life” Friday, the latest movie in their family movie initiative, Dec. 2 on NBC.

The family-friendly film follows a college freshman, who is faced with challenges of loyalty, family, and friendship, as he strives to be successful at school while helping his financially strapped father.

Due to numerous surveys revealing viewer’s desire for more family entertainment options, Walmart, (Procter & Gamble) P&G, and Front Porch Entertainment have joined forces in creating “Family Movie Night.” For the past three years the companies have produced and featured several movies intended for all ages, accumulating over 16 million viewers.

In the latest “techy” drama, Zach finds himself stretched to his limits and torn between his responsibility to his team at the Digital Institute of Game Design and his desire to help his father. He is faced with the decision of choosing what is more important.

The chief marketing director of Front Porch Entertainment Tom O’Brien spoke with The Christian Post about “Game of Your Life,” which marks the ninth collaboration between the film studio, Walmart, and P&G.

“We develop movies that the whole family can watch,” said O’Brian explaining the video game design element of the story. “We’re really looking for mass appeal programs that everybody will really love so this high-tech drama is something that even non-gamers will appreciate because they understand and can see out there all different types of entertainment you can play on.”

Over 200 marketers across dozens of agencies work on producing the films involved with “Family Movie Night,” which has received excellent responses from viewers. O’Brien believes that “Game of Your Life” will bring the initiative to over 40 million viewers upon its release.

“We thought it would be really great to give a behind-the-scenes look at how video games are developed and there are actually colleges in the U.S. where kids go,” continued O’Brien referring to the institute in the film, which mimics many motion and graphic design programs offered to young people today.

Zach is “trying to figure out how to save his dad’s business and yet he’s an 18-year-old kid, and so what he should be doing is focusing on college.” said O’Brien, noting the film’s palpable, real-to-life plot.

The director went on to describe the “universal truth” in the film, which is intended to teach viewers and open discussion that “every decision you make impacts those around you.”

O’Brien indicated that the values in the film were built around loyalty, responsibility, and teamwork.

A large part of the “Family Movie Night” initiative is to create content that people will enjoy watching – while also paving a way for discussions between parents and children.

“That’s really what we’re about,” said O’Brien, who added that parent as well as teacher guides are available online at mom4familytv.com. O’Brien mentioned that he has participated in “family movie nights” since he was a child and now shares the tradition with his own kids today.

“Game of Your Life” will premiere Friday at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. The nine previously released films in “Family Movie Night” are available for sale at Walmart and online, and many of them are available in Christian bookstores as well.
