Fans Petition For Tris To Live Amidst Rumours Of Alternate Ending For 'Divergent: Allegiant'

Fans of the successful "Divergent" series of films do not want Tris to die. They have made an online petition and hope author Veronica Roth agrees to a happy ending.

Veronica Roth's book "Allegiant" was released in October 2013. It was written from the viewpoint of Tris and Four and had a heartrending end with Tris sacrificing herself for humanity. Fans already know the book's ending but they are speculating that the film, "Divergent: Allegiant," will not have Tris dying.

The filming of "Divergent: Allegiant" is over and the movie is scheduled for a March 2016 release. Fans have become fidgety trying to know what end the movie will depict. Diehard fans have created a petition in Change.org titled "Let Tris Live in The End," hoping to change the creator's mind into letting Tris live.

In "Divergent: Allegiant," Tris Prior understands what her parents were trying to tell her all this time. She becomes aware of the truth that a sacrifice is needed of her. Finally growing up, she understands the true meaning of love, family, death and sacrifice.

Veronica Roth admitted that she too had thought of an alternative ending where Tris and friends live happily after the world is saved. But this idea did not sound good for a movie. Tris' sacrifice had a compelling ring to it.

The cast also thought that the story rose to another level with the death of Tris. Theo James, who plays the character of Four, thinks it was "natural" and "totally made sense." He mentioned to Buzzfeed that Tris' character has always been "endlessly selfless" and that he thinks the ending written by Roth was understandable and justified.

Roth, while speaking to MTV News, said that Tris has a near death experience in the first book and had an inkling that it was her fate to sacrifice for humanity to be saved.

Roth also added that she did not have any apprehensions about killing off Tris who is the protagonist of the story. Her publisher and editor both supported her in this. She said, "I think they knew I would only do it if it worked or if it felt like the only way it could end."

"The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is scheduled to premiere on March 18, 2016 in theatres.
