'Far Cry 5' News: Entire Campaign Playable On Co-op, Has No Random Matchmaking

The entire story campaign of "Far Cry 5" will be playable in co-op. This was shown in action in a new trailer released at the Paris Games Week.

Gamers will be able to get some help from a pal in taking down the fanatical cult that has taken over Montana using the Friend for Hire feature. This will add a custom player character that can help them battle enemies.

"Far Cry 5" will also allow gamers to share ammo and health packs with their friends and vice versa. Friendly fire can also be toggled on if they want to test the limit of their friendship.

There will be no random matchmaking used in the Friend for Hire feature, which means that gamers will only be able to invite people on their friend's list.

Of course, there are limitations as to how the friend will influence the gameplay in "Far Cry 5" as the host player still gets to control most of it. As Ubisoft details on its blog:

Only the hosting player will be able to accept missions, recruit and command Guns for Hire, and keep the progress you make in the world. Your friend, meanwhile, will get to keep all their progression as a player, retaining any cash, guns, perks, or loot they earn (with the exception of items unlocked by missions) while fighting alongside you. The game will also keep you together to make sure you watch each other's backs, by taking account of each player's position and teleporting one closer to the other if someone has wandered too far away.

Of course, those who are not too keen about the idea of a buddy team-up and just want to plow through "Far Cry 5" solo will also be able to do so by turning off co-op.

"Far Cry 5" will be released on Feb. 27 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
